Mr. E. Richardson is a Wanganui visitor to Auckland.

Mr. B. R. Dobbs, president of the Wanganui Crippled Children’s Society, is visiting Auckland.

Mr. James Grant, director of the Alexander Museum, will be the speaker at to-day’s luncheon of the Wanganui Rotary Club.

Mr. H. M. Smith, of Aramoho, and formerly of Hawera, is acting-station-master at Hawera during the absence on holiday of Mr. M. L. Bracefield.

Mr. M. A. Carter, of the Hastings Post Office, has been transferred on promotion to Auckland and will leave Hastings to-morrow to take over his new duties.

Mr. K. D. Panckhurst, of the Hastings Post Office staff has been advised of his transfer on promotion to Auckland and will leave Hastings to-mor-row for Auckland.

Mr. E. G. Scrimshaw (Hamilton) and Mr. W. Sibun (Auckland) were visitors to Wanganui during the weekend. They left for Wellington last evening by car.

Mr. R. G. Drummond, engineer to the Tuapeka County Council, Lawrence, Otago, has been appointed engineer to the Dannevirke County Couincil. There were 13 applicants.

Mr. P. Tizard, who for the last two years has represented the Shell Oil Company in Napier and who has been transferred to Greymouth, left Napier on Wednesday accompanied by Mrs. Tizard and Miss D. Tizard.

Mr. K. F. Elmes, a member of the Telegraph branch of the Chief Post Office, Napier, has received notice oi his transfer on promotion to Auckland and will leave Napier to-morrow to take up his duties.

Mr. and Mrs. R. Allison, of Sydney, Mr. G. Flight, of Melbourne, and Mr. W. Clarke, of Tasmania, were visitors to Wanganui during the week-end, <n route to Christchurch for the conference of funeral directors.

After over 42 years' service with the National Bank of New Zealand, for six years of which he has been in charge of the Waihi branch, Mr. C. N. McDonald is retiring on February 15. His successor is Mr. F. W. D. Atkin, of the head office.

Major-General J. E. Duigan, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Defence Forces, and Major G. B. Parkinson, commander of the New Zealand Royal Artillery, are visiting Auckland during the course of a tour of military camps.

Mr. J. E. Cater, of the staff of the Public Trust Office, Napier, has received notice of his transfer to the Te Avoha office. Mr. Cater came to Napier from the Waipukurau office two years ago and will leave Napier for Te Arona about the middle of this month.

Mr. W. V. Bott, manager of the British Phosphate Commission’s deposits at Nauru Island, and Mr. G. J. Bridges, manager of the deposits at Ocean Island, arrived at Auckland from Nauru Island on Thursday by the commission's motor-ship Trienza.

Dr. W. K. Gregory, New York, leader of the scientific section of the Lerner Expedition from the American Museum of Natural History, who has been carrying out research at Mayor Island, was an arrival at Wellington on Friday from Auckland by the Limited express.

One of Wellington’s oldest residents, Mr. William West Knowles, died at his residence, 11 Mowbray Street, on Friday at the age of 89 years. Mr. Knowles was born in London and came to New Zealand with his parents about 1850. The family settled in Wellington and Mr. Knowles received his education at the old Terrace School.

Mr. J. J. McCluskey, of the Napier office of the Lands and Deeds Department, has received notice of hib transfer to Auckland and will probably leave Napier towards the end of the month to take over his new duties. Mr. McCluskey was forme:«y stationed at Dunedin and Wellington and came to Napier in 1932, since when he has taken a prominent part in Rugby and yachting.
