Highland Dancing Judge. “It was on the Hunterville ground that I made my first public appearance as a Highland dancer," remarked Mr. Hilary Glasgow, who was judge of the national dancing at the Hunterville sports on Saturday. Mr. Glasgow first competed 21 years ago.

Maori Broadcast To-night. The Wanganui Maori Party is to broadcast from 2YA Wellington tonight, the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. The Maori melodies, choruses and solos were composed by Mr. O. Kitson, who is musical director and manager.

Excursion to Wellington. A large party of Wanganui people travelled to Wellington yesterday morning by a special excursion train. The train left Wanganui at 6.55 a.m. and arrived at Wellington at 11.58 a.m. and left for Wanganui on the return journey at 5.55 p.m., arriving shortly after 11 p.m.

P. and T. Cycle Race. Six Wanganui telegraph messengers competed in a nine-mile cycle , road race yesterday morning, the course being a circuit of the Kaimatira Block starting and finishing at Hatrick’s Foundry. The winner was G. Gerrie, with a handicap of two minutes, M. Daly (2min.) being second and E. Willacy (scr.) third.

Import Licensing The recent import licensing proposals of the Government will be discussed at the quarterly meeting of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce in Duigan’s rooms to-night. At the conclusion of the ordinary business, Mr. W. J. Robinson, who recently visited the United States, will deliver an address on his travels.

Motor-cyclist Injured. Injuries to the face and head were received by Jack Woods, of Taupo Quay, Wanganui, yesterday afternoon when he was involved in an accident when competing in a motor-cycle race on the river beach at Imlay yesterday afternoon. The injured rider was taken to the Wanganui Public Hospital and last night was reported .to be in a satisfactory condition.

Automobile Patrols. The Automobile Association (Wanganui) patrols controlled the parking of cars at the Opunake races and the Hunterville sports on Saturday. At Opunake 900 cars were parked and at Hunterville upwards of 200 cars were counted. The Wanganui patrols will be assisting at the Hawera races on Thursday and Saturday next and will control the parking at the Ohingaiti sports on Saturday.

Farewell to Former M.P. A farewell to Mr. Ormond Wilson, former M.P. for Rangitikei, is being arranged by the Rangitikei Labour Representation Committee. The farewell function will take place in the Civic Theatre, Marton, on the evening of Friday, March 3. Mr. Wilson will leave New Zealand on March 6 for an extended tour of England and the Continent, and is expected to return to the Dominion in October next. Garrison Band at Lake. The Wanganui Garrison Band, under the baton of Mr. R. Francis, L.R.S.M., paraded at Virginia Lake yesterday afternoon and played a programme of music, including the pieces to be presented at the New Zealand contest at Christchurch this month. A popular item was the descriptive “Cuckoo Waltz.” The band practises at the Opera House on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights and an invivtation is given to the people of Wanganui to attend the rehearsals. Visiting Funeral Directors Three visiting funeral directors from Australia and two from the Auckland province were entertained yesterday afternoon at a picnic party at Hipango Park by members of the Wanganui Funeral Directors’ Association. The visitors were Messrs. R. Allison (Sydney), G. Flight (Melbourne), W. Clarke (Tasmania), E. F. Scrimshaw (Hamilton), and W. Sibun (Auckland). They are en route to the funeral directors' conference at Christchurch and left by car in the evening. Australian Tourists. A party of Australian tourists from the cruise liner Oronsay arrived in Wanganui yesterday afternoon during the course of a brief tour of the North Island. The Oronsay, with a complement of 759 passengers, arrived at Auckland on Friday from Brisbane and later left left for Wellington. The Wanganui party visited the Waitomo Caves, Rotorua, Wairakei and Chateau Tongariro and will leave early this morning to join the Oronsay at Wellington. The seventh cruise ship of the season, the P. and O. liner Stratheden. will arrive from Brisbane next Friday on her maiden voyage to New Zealand. She is a vessel of 20,000 tons register.

Swimming at Paten. The annual Patea bridge-to-bridge swimming race for members of the surf club was held yesterday, the event attracting twelve starters. A. Girling (Waverley) finished first but as he is not a member of the club the second placed swimmer, F. C. Verney, was awarded the Fred Locker Cup. J. Pepperill was third and C. Haining, who has won the cup on two previous occasions, was fourth. OtheF starters were E. Oakley, M. Boagey, R. Sopp, R. Adams and P. Hills. Girling won by 15 yards in 20min. 59 2-ssec. The cup was presented to the winner by Mr. H. Boden, secretary of the Seaside Improvement Society, who presented to A. Girling a trophy donated by Mr. G. Fraser.

Week-end Flying. The Wanganui Aero Club's Tiger Moth was flown to Palmerston North and return on Saturday morning byMr. H. L. Tancred, pilot-instructor, who was accompanied by Mr. A. McKenzie. Mr. R. Fletcher flew to Palmerston North in the Miles Hawk. Mr. C. Merrington flying, the machine back to Wanganui with Mr. Fletcher as passenger. The Auckland Aero Club's Miles Magister called in on Saturday en route to Blenheim with Mr. R. Diggle, of Hamilton, as pilot and Mrs. Diggle as passenger. Mr. R. Porter flew to Wanganui and return from Palmerston North in the Middle Districts Aero Club’s Porterfield. Yesterday morning Mr. L. V. West flew to Wanganui from Palmerston North in a Tiger Moth and during the afternoon Mr. Merrington flew to Palmerston North in the Wanganui Miles Hawk with Mr. Fletcher as passenger. Mr. Fletcher flew the machine back to Wanganui.
