Safety on the Roads.

Evidence that the recent Road Safety campaign had been effective was provided on the highway between Wanganui and Marton yesterday when a large number of motor-cars conveyed patrons to and from the Marton races without an accident. It was noted that there were few, if any, instances of reckless driving. Up-river Excursions Excursions up the Wanganui River during the week-end were well patronised. On New Year’s Day the Waione carried a full load of picnickers to Hipango Park for the day and the launch Alert carried a full complement for a short trip during the afternoon. The Waione made a moonlight trip on New Year’s night and yesterday morning carried a full load to Hipango Park, the Ohura leaving about half an hour later for the same destination with a full load. In addition to these excursions many people travelled up the river in private launches, dinghies and canoes, others travelling to picnic spots by motorcar.
