MODEL AEROPLANES
MEETING IN WANGANUI RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS Model aeroplane flyers from Auckland, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Masterton and Hawera are competing at a meeting being held in Wanganui under the auspices of the Model Aeronautical Society. Flying began on New Year's Day, on property at the end of Manuka Street, Castlecliff, and although conditions yesterday were not good, a high standard has been maintained. The outstanding flight of the meeting took place, when a model owned by Mr. F. E. Bethwaite, in an unofficial flight, disappeared from sight and was discovered several miles away. Points in the various competitions, with the exception of the handlaunched glider class, were given on the average time for three flights, results being as follows: Hand-Launched Glider.—A. Ward I, A. Donald 2, H. Fuiton 3. The winner’s average over six flights was Im in. 20sec. Stick Class.—K. Williams (1.47) 1, J. Doyle (58) 2. Glider (tow-line).—J. Joll (50) 1. D. Howlett (23) 2. Best Finished Model.—W. R. Perry. Fairchild 24, 1; B. Donald, 2; F. E. Bethwaite 3. Petrol-Driven Model (with 30sec. limited motor run).—F. E. Bethwaite (L. 51 1, V. Dawes (1.20) 2, M. C. Kibby (1.10) 3. Wakefield Class. K. Williams (1.12) 1, A. Ward (1.2) 2, H. Fulton 3. Petrol-Driven Model (45sec. limited motor run).—V. Dawes (1.32) 1, H. Parker (43) 2, D. Smith (33) 3. The competitions will bf continued to-day, conditions permitting, at 10 a.m.
