RAIL EXCURSIONS

NEW PLYMOUTH VISIT MANY WANGANUI PASSENGERS A large number of Wanganui people travelled to New Plymoutn on Sunday by the special excursion train whica left Wanganui at 7.30 a.m. and arrived at New Plymouth at 12.2 p.m. When the train left Wanganui it had 240 passengers, these being supplemented by 20 more at St. John s and 50 at Aramoho. Additional passengers were picked up at wayside stations and when the excursion train left Patea it had a complement of 390 passengers. On arrival at New Plymouth it had a full load ot 450 passengers in the 12 carriages. The return train left New Plymouth at 5.20 p.m. and arrived in Wanganui at 10 p.m. An excursion train from Hawera conveyed 500 passengers to New Plymouth and another excursion from Taumarunui conveyed 300 passengers, making a total from the three trains of nearly 1300 visitors. Yesterday special trains were run from Paekakariki, Taihape and Wanganui for the Marton Jockey Club's meeting. Similar specials will be run for the second day s racing to-day, the Wanganui train leaving at 9.40 a.m. and ariving back in me city at 9.12 p.m.

On Saturday and Sunday, January 14 and 15, a special excursion has Deen arranged between Wanganui and Napier. The excursion will leave Wanganui at 8.15 p.m. The return train will leave Napier at 4 p.m. on the following day and arrive at Wanganui at 10.55 p.m. on Sunday. A number of sightseeing tours are being arranged in Napier for the benefit of the excursionists.
