OHINGAITI WEDDING

IVEY—PAKKES A wedding of great interest to the residents of the surrounding district was solemnised at the Ohingaiti Presbyterian Church, on Thursday, October 6, the Rev. W. McCallum officiating. The contracting parties were Olive Muriel, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Parkes , of Sandon Block, Hunterville, and James Alden, 'thiru son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ivey Paremata, Wellington. The bride made a dainty picture ao she entered the church escorted by her father. She was gowned in ivory satin cut on slim lines, the skirt failing into a flared train. The bodice was ornamented by a spray of orange blossoms. Over all she wore an embroidered tulle veil mounted on a coronet of orange blossom, and was wearing a necklet of pearls, the gilt of the bridegroom. She carried a handsome bouquet of arum lilies, freesias, bouvaidia, and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaid, Miss Bernice Parkes, sister of the bride, wore a charming frock of old gold corded marocain, finished with a shoulder spray of shaded orchids with a wreath of flowers on her hair to tone and a crystal necklet, the gift of the bridegroom. Her bouquet was of golden freesias, bulbacadiums, black birch, and maidenhair fern. The two little maids, Lois Parkes and Elva Philps, sister and cousin of the bride respectively, were dressed alike in ankle length frocks of daffodil yellow crushed marocain and wore head, bands of multi coloured flowers and carried tiny posies of gold polyanthus and blue grape hyacinths with multi coloured ribbons. Each wore a gold bangle, the gifts of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was ably supported by Mr. Noel Clapham, of Paremata. The duties of ushers were carried out by Mr. L. Bielski, of Taumarunui, and Mr. Ron Parkes. The wedding music was rendered by Mrs. J. Stewart. The beautiful bouquets and posies were the work of Mrs. Thos. Stewart, and were a source of great admiration. After the ceremony the guests motored to the home of the bride’s parents, “Wattle Dale,” Sandon Block, where they were received by Mr. and Mrs. Parkes and Mrs. J. Ivey. Mrs. Parkes was wearing a becoming ensemble of navy georgette with navy straw hat . Her shoulder spray was ot flowers in blue and mauve tonings and she carried a bouquet of tulips, lilac, and foliage in the same shades.

Mrs. Ivey wore a smart navy costume and fur necklet, her navy straw hat being relieved with pink and she carried a bouquet in pink tonings.

The bride’s grandmother, Mrs. E. A. Perry, was frocked in black floral crepe de chine, black hat and black lace coat, and wore a shoulder spray of scarlet japonica and berries and carried a bouquet to match. An outstanding feature on the bride’s table was the handsome wedding cake which was made by her mother. After the usual toasts had been honoured the bride appeared tor travelling, looking very smart in a navy tailored costume, lace blouse, navy toque with eye veil, navy shoes gloves and handbag, and carried a navy cloth coat, with black fur trimmings. When Mr. and Mrs. J. Alden Ivey left for the wedding tour they were showered with confetti and gooG wishes by all their friends and relatives. The happy couple receiveo many beautiful and useful presents which included a number of cheques. The guests included: Mr. and Mrs. A. Ivey, of Alton. Patea; Mr. and Mrs. R. Brown, Palmerston North; Mr. and Mrs. Rutherford, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Kilgour, of Kiwitea; Mrs. Clapham and Mrs. Brown, of Paremata; Mrs. Hutton, Lower Hutt; Mr. and Mrs. A. Parkes, Mrs. B. Parkes and Mr. H. Parkes, of Marton; Mr., Mrs. and Miss Kilminster, Mr., Mrs. and Miss Stratford, Mrs. McAlley, Mr. and Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. F. Parkes and Mr. Stan Parkes, of Hunterville; Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Philps, Mr. and Mrs. Lumsden, Mr. W. H. Philps and Miss Mehaffey, of Ohingaiti, and Rev. and Mrs. McCallum, Mangaweka.
