EGMONT ELECTORATE
. ___ —— LABOUR ACTIVITIES ; MR. WILKINSON’S POSITION NEW PLYMOUTH, May 21. ‘ The political situation in the Eg- : mont electorate is still a little ob- ; scure. However, the Labour Party u active and is holding meetings ir various centres. Addresses are being given by the three prospective Laboui candidates, Messrs. T. E. Trask. J Ross and T. Gardiner, presumably with a view to securing the party's nomination. • On the other side the National • Party has made no move to indicate ' its position by announcing whether it will contest the seat officially. It is | known, however, that the Leader oi 'the party, the Hon. A. Hamilton, called upon Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.M., during his recent visit to Taranaki and it is believed that an understanding was arrived at whereby Mr. Wilkinson. while retaining his status as an Independent will not be opposed by an official National candidate. An announcement of ihe National Party’s intentions is expected shortly
