NEW PLYMOUTH TRACKS

HORSES FOR WANGANUI. FINAL WORK ON FRIDAY. The racing at Hawera over the week-end has caused a lull on the New Plymouth tracks for the present as a number of horses have been eased for a few days before returning to more serious business. The course proper, on the extreme outside, was available on Tuesday morning for those trainers with horses engaged at Wanganui, writes "Rapier” in the Taranaki Herald. Don Erma was restricted to a working gallop over a circuit and allowed to brush along the last two furlongs in 27 4-ssec. This old campaigner has pleased his trainer since Hawera and there has been no recurrence of lameness. Saturday’s race has wrought improvement in his condition. Lady Kyra showed clear by a length from Bonny Glow at the completion of six furlongs in 1.20, the first three taking 38 3-ssec. Lady Kyra did her work impressively and may shortly make amends for recent failures. A trio to go by float to carry out engagements at the Wanganui Jockey Club's meeting comprise Don Erma, Ripple and Glenthawn, while Lady Kyra, Bonny Glow and Tahurangi will be entrained for a similar destination. R. W. Shaw has been engaged to ride Ripple and Lady Kyra at Wanganui and N. R. McKenzie will steer Cometarium and probably Bonny Glow. Booklaw's form al the Egmont meeting was all wrong, so it was decided against racing him meantime and he is on the easy list for a few days. When S. Cleaver’s representative resumes it is likely he will be got ready for the Hack and Hunters’ tracks in the four-year-old mare steeples at Foxton. An acquisition to New Plymouth Merial (Chief Rules—Melissa) who has been transferred to R. Johnson’s stable. Merial has been raced in the Auckland province by the Te Rapa trainer A. Winder. With smaller fields in Taranaki Merial should fare very well after she has built up a bit in condition for her northern form at times was quite encouraging.
