HASTINGS TRACKS
WANGANUI CANDIDATES TUESDAY’S OPERATIONS “ HASTINGS, May 10. The tracks this morning, althougn in fair order, were not fast. A few of the Wanganui candidates from here engaged on Tuesday and Saturday were galloped. iddo (J. Mudford) was lirst out and he pleased bv the mariner in which he did six furlongs in 1.20. He leaves tomorrow for Wanganui to contest the Century Hurdles, when he will oe ridden by A. Jenkins. It depends on how he races whether he will go on to the Waikato and Auckland meetings. However, this Tractor gelding was never better and the easy manner in which he won both at Woodville and Egmont suggests that he will be in demand on Thursday. Collodian (T. Treacey) went well in a trial over once round to register 1.421 in the only gallop on the plough, the others being on No. 1 inside grass. Trailer (J. Olsen) did an easy four furlongs in 531. Golden Melody (B. Stowe) and a Lord Quex —Arab Song gelding (H. Callahan) ran 52isec. for half a mile for the former to do it very comfortably. Plaidie (J. Dooley) and Padishah (C. Shields) were schooled over tour hurdles, but as the pace was slow the actual jumping was not as brilliant as if they had been going faster. Morning Flight (P. Atkins) and Proclamation (H. Callahan) were not troubled to run half a mile in 53sec. Gironde (P. Atkins) and Lindruin (H. Callahan) were sprinted over three furlongs in 39sec., both dong it well. Trcs Sec (P. Atkins), usually a poor track worker, mildly surprised by getting to the end of four furlongs in 511 sec. Martini (Burgess), Gala <W. ii. Tricklebank) and an un-named Tidal gelding (J. Webby) went out for u round over the country, but at the initial fence, through being slightly crowded, Gala fell. Although Tricklebank received what looked like a bad fall, he escaped serious injury. The other pair gave a sound display of fencing. Happy Landing (C. Cameron) and Inheritance (F. Cleaver) were sent once round in 1.54 for the former b: do the belter. However, both went pleasingly, and are in fine order for the Wanganui trip. Hastings West (C. Shields) and Jazz Boy (H. Callahan) took 51 3-ssec for half a mile, with nothing lo choose between the pair at the finish. Gai Wind (J. Mudford) did six furlongs, the last four in olsec. —a very fair effort. Colleen Gain (J. Webby) and Earl’s Court (C. Zuppicich), at a working gallop tale, ran four furlongs in 55sec. The latter was hard held. Red Witch, who is in great heart, left this morning for Wanganui.
