DANCING EXAMINATION

ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCING. Pupils and teachers of dancing all over New Zealand are eagerly antici- ' pating the Royal Academy of Dancing examinations to be held in October. I This marks the fourth year since | the inauguration of examinations in this country and the ever-increasing number of entries is proof of the interest which has been roused. The Royal Academy of Dancing was I founded in London in 1920 by such world-famous dancers as Madame Adeline Genee, Tamar Karsarvina, Madame Cormani and Espinosa who felt that a standardised syllabus of operatic technique was needed for the benefit of future dancing in England. Examinations were later adopted, not to be taken in a spirit of competition as much as an incentive to hard work and an official recognition of the pupils’ efforts. During the last few years branches of the Royal Academy of Dancing have been established in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. An examiner comes from England, who examines both the children and senior pupils in elementary, intermediate and advanced technique and the intervening year when only th£ children’s grades are he]d the examiner comes from Australia. This year Miss Frances Scully", of Sydney, is to be the examiner and will conduct children’s examinations in the principal towns of New Zealand, including Wanganui.
