“Of the year’s levy of £109,020, the total amount of rates collected was £98,414, or 90.2 per cent, compared with 87.7 per cent, during the previous year,” states the annual report cl the Town Clerk, Mr. G Murch. “The rates- for the year just dosed unpaid on March 31 amount to £lO,568, the total outstanding for all past years being £25,703. “Each year the council makes ample provision for rates that are or will become irrecoverable, and as the net debit balance at March 31 on all the accounts into which the rates are receivable is only £715 16s Bd, the ultimate value of the arrears of rates when collected can be regarded as a substantial reserve of £14,000 to £15,000.”
