LICENSING CEREMONY MR I. DIXON, M.A. An impressive service took place on Wednesday night at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, when Mr lan Dixon, M.A., was licensed by the Presbytery of Wanganui as a preacher of the Gospel. The Moderator of the Presbytery, the Rev. J. Hubbard, M.A., 8.D., of Palmerston North, presided, and conducted the licensing ceremony. There was a large congregation.
The sermon was preached by the Rev. T. H. Burton, 8.A., of Marton. The Rev. L. H. Ker, M.A., clerk of the Presbytery, read the narrative of the steps leading up to the licensing of the candidate. Then the Moderator put the questions and, these being satisfactorily answered, declared Mr Dixon a duly licensed probationer of the Presbyterian Church. The Moderator congratulated Mr Dixon on having finished his course, and more so on the fact that he had determined to put his life to the service of God. He wished him every success in the ministry. Prior to the service, a call was put through to the Rev. G. W. T. Hercus, of Kaiapoi, from the charge of Foidell.
Later a social gathering w,as held at St. Paul’s Hall, when opportunity was taken for members of the congregation to meet Mr Dixon. The Rev. A. C. McLean congratulated Mr Dixon on the step he haa taken, and also congratulated Mr and Mrs S. M. Dixon on the fact that they now had two sons in the ministry of the Presbyterian Church.
