WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, October 28, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone of considerable intensity is moving on to the Dominion but pressure is relatively low over the North Tasman and is falling slowly over south-eastern Australia. Forecast. —Winds: Southerly to easterly north of New Plymouth and Napier, elsewhere variable but southerly or westerly predominating, force mainly light to moderate but freshening at times in the far North and South and also about Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough about Foveaux Strait, elsewhere slight to moderate but rising later in Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to fresh easterly winds in the northern portion, variable winds but north-westerlies predominating in the southern portion. Weather: For the most part fine but some scattered showers probable in the far North and South. Cold night with some sharp inland frosts, but mild day temperatures. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 12 hours 10 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperature: Maximum, 62deg. Fahr.; minimum, 48deg. Fahr.
