PERSONALS | Mrs W. C. Glenny and Miss Mavis Glenny, Auckland, have been visiting friends in Patca. Miss G. Tompkins, accompanied by her small nephew, leaves to-day on annual leave, to visit her parents at Hamilton. Mrs Magnay. Hawera, is the guest of her sister, Mrs C. R. Honeyfield, at “Park Farm.” Mrs Wales, who has been the guest of her mother, Mrs J. A. Haswell, has returned to Auckland. Miss E. Lavery has been on a short visit to Wellington. Mrs S. C. Mcßae hostessed a “welcome home” afternoon to Mrs G. O. Taylor, on Monday. Miss I. Mourie, Manaia, has joined the nursing staff of the local hospital. Miss J. Cotton is holidaying in Wellington. Miss E. Atkins, Nelson, left Paten yesterday for Te Aroha. Miss M. Cowie has returned from Nelson find Wellington. Mr and Mrs L. T. Adams return this week-end from Palmerston North and Wanganui. Quite a number of Patea W.I. members attended the garden party at Mrs L. R. Hamilton’s residence. Manutahi, on Tuesday, arranged by the Manutahi W.D.F.U. and thoroughly enjoyed the gorgeous gardens. OPAKU WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Members of the Opaku Women’s Institute Garden Circle spent an enjoyable afternoon at the home of Mr.S. Davidson on October 12. The garden was greatly admired and many useful hints exchanged. A demonstration of grafting was given and a dainty afternoon tea was appreciated. Mrs R. Hughes, leader, thanked the hostess. PATEA SCHOOL COMMITTEE Mrs Anderson, honorary organising secretary for the health camp movement, advised the Patea School committee at its meeting on Tuesday that applications for the admission of children to the health camp could be made to the school committee, who could pass the applications and it was resolved to comply with this. The headmaster reported that the roll numbered 231. The five new clocks had arrived and the tennis courts were now in use. The lawnmower needed attention and matting costing £1 2s 8d was required for the infants’ room.
It was decided to procure the matting and to concrete a strip three feet wide around the swimming pool, the chairman, secretary, and Mr Beauchamp to be a committee to carry out the work. The foe for use of the tennis court was fixed as at last year. The children’s fancy dress dance is to be held on November 4, the prices to be the same as last year, family tickets covering parents and children attending primary or secondary schools. Vinsen’s Ambassadors are to provide the music for children from 7.30 to 10 p.m. and for adults from 10 p.m. to midnight. A meeting of ladies interested Is to be called. Air R. E. The annual meeting of delegates ot the Goodwin Cup Cricket Association was held at Manutahi recently, Air C. Wills presiding. A credit of £3 3s was shown in the balance-sheet. Officers elected were: President, An E. P. McCarthy; selector, Air J. Gibbs; secretary, Mr S. Lord. Thanks were accorded the retiring secretary. Air C. Wills, and the retiring president, Mr J. Archer, for the splendid work they had done in establishing the cup competitions. Air and Mrs A. J. Gibbs and family were thanked for their hospitality to the Marist Club when they visited Alton. Seven teams are entered for the competition this year, the draw being as follows (home teams being mentioned first): — October 17: Kakaramea v. Opaku; Rovers v. Whenuakura; Hurleyville v.
