LTIKU GOLF CLUB

The official closing of the Utiku golf links took place last Saturday in the presence of a large number ot members and visitors. The usual mixed foursomes competition was played over nine holes, the winners being Mrs H. Belk and C. A. Transom, witn a net score of 33L Mrs H. D. Bona won the ladies’ putting, while Mr 1. McColl carried oil the trophy for the men's putting. A lavish afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the club.

In the course of a brief speech, the president (Mr W. Prime) expressec. pleasure at the large attendance ot visitors, and look the opportunity ol thanking Mr H. Belk for the use ol his properly. The speaker expressec. appreciation of the manner in which the links nad been grazed, and went on to thank the ladies oi the club for their excellent catering during the season. Thanks was also due to the officials, especially the lady secretary, Miss Al. Belk, and the club secretary, Mr P. Pragnell. Mrs Prime then presented the trophies won during the season, the prize-winners being as follows: — Laaies’ senior championship: Miss Al. Belk; runner-up, Airs C. H. Transom.

NATIONAL PARTY Supporters of the National Parly (North Rangitikei branch) arc invited to attend a meeting in the Taihape Town Hall supper room to-mor-row (Saturday), October 16, at 8 p.m. Messrs Arthur Way and E. T. Cooper will be present. General business will be transacted. In the Victoria University examinations D. P. Caird passed in education (Stage 1.), and pure mathematics (Stage I.). C. V Gallagher was successful in pure mathematics and applied mathematics (Stage III.). Both are ex-pupils o£ the Taihape District High School. GENERAL NEWS. An Aberdeen Angus bull, bred by Mr. L. A. P. Sherriff, of Taoroa, was offered for sale at a bull fair at Dannevirke on Wednesday and realised 355 guineas which was top price for the sale. This speaks well for the district and is a feather in the cap of a well-known and highly-esteemed farmer who has been breeding Aberdeen Angus cattle for several years with conspicuous success. The bull in question was offered for sale by the N. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., on behalf of Mr. Sherriff. Never, in the memory of this reviewer, has there been so thrilling a love team as that revealed in “Camille” through the unforgetably poignant portrayal of the incomparable Aliss Garbo and the virile and romantic performance of Taylor, who in this picture more than satisfies the expectations of the millions who have proclaimed him the screen’s most fascinating male actor.
