DIPLOMAT SHOT
AMERICAN OFFICIAL IN SYRIA Received Oct. 13, 1.5 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 12. A message from the Beirut United Press Association correspondent states that Consul-Gen-eral Thomas Marriner, senior American diplomat in Syria, was shot dead outside the Consulate. His assailant is believed to be an Armenian who was refused a visa to enter the United States.
