MANAWATU GORGE ACCIDENT I P«f Press Association ] PALMERSTON N., May 30. A verdict that Victor Arthur Johnston died of a broken neck was returned at an inquest to-day. On the night of May 17, deceased’s car plunged into the Manawatu River in the Manawatu Gorge and the body was only recovered on Saturday three and a-half miles from the scene of the tragedy. In the opinion of Dr. Mules, of Woodville, Johnston’s neck was broken before the car hit the river 150 feet below. Deceased, who was a commercial traveller, leaves a widow and daughter aged 11, who are resident at Wellington.
