STRUCK BY CAR
YOUNG WOMAN KILLED COMPANION INJURED [ Per Press Associat’on. ] AUCKLAND, May 30. One young woman was killed and another injured when, while crossing Victoria Road at Belmont shortly before eight o’clock on Saturday night, they were struck by a motor-car proceeding towards Takapuna. A fracture of the base of the skull and head injuries resulted in IV; almost instantaneous death of Mrs. Eva Elizabeth Hunt, aged 26, of Takapuna, while her companion, Miss Gabrielle Beattie, aged 20, of Mount Eden, suffered concussion, facial injuries and shock. The motor-car, which was an old touring type, was driven by John Albert Gibson, aged 20, a student.
ACCIDENT WITH RIFLE
BOY DIES IN HOSPITAL I Per Pre* Arsoriitlon. 1 GREYMOUTH, May .10. CHRISTCHURCH, May 30. Shot in the head while target-shoot-ing near Godley Heads lighthouse this afternoon, Selwyn Walker, aged 15, suffered serious injuries to the skull, from which he died in hospital this evening; With three other boys Walker had been shooting a tin on the beach below the cliffs at Godley Heads. He went forward to examine the tin. One of the other boys attempted to fire a shot out to sea but the rifle did not discharge, and the boy concluded that it was not loaded. With the trigger still pressed he swung round, at the same time raising the hammer. The rifle at once fired and a bullet entered Walker’s forehead near the left temple. With the assistance of a man the boys carried their companion up to the lighthouse, from where a telephone message was sent for an ambulance. Walker was taken to hospital, where he died at 8.20 p.m.
