OBITUARY
- I CAPTAIN 1. J. PAPPLE j A private cable was received in Wanganui this week announcing the sad and untimely passing on Monday last of Captain F. J. Papple, at Woodside Private Hospital, Fremantle. The late Captain Papple was well and favourably known in shipping circles in the Dominion, having for years traded with the U.S.S. Co., and other lines of steamers. He was also in command of the Shell Oil Co.’s Volsella on her initial trip to New Zealand from the East and later the Paua in these ■ waters. Captain Papple had been in the Shell Co.’s service for many years, and had traded to practically all the shipping ports of the globe, being well known and highly respected in mercantile circles in the East. He was retiring from the sea early next year, and intended settling down either in ' Adelaide or this city. The late Captain Papple was possessed of a most 1 genial personality, liked by all who ; knew him, and his sad death at a com- J paratively early age will be mourned < by friends everywhere. Left to 1 mourn his loss are his widow, and two 1 children, Catherine and Frederick John, who reside at Tusmore, Ade- < laidc. and two sisters, Miss E. L. J Papple, Wanganui, and Mrs. C.
