CLERK’S DEATH
DRAMATIC LAST WORDS EVIDENCE AT INQUEST [ Per Preea Association. | CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 27. The dramatic last words of a City Council clerk, William Henry Greenwood, were reported at the inquest e to-day. Greenwood’s body was found y on November 14 at the foot of a cliff *• at Scarborough. Earlier in the day he visited the town clerk of ChristJ church, Mr. J. S. Neville, at his home ’ at Sumner, and on leaving exclaimed: a | “My God! My God! I must do it,” and walked towards the cliffs. a Mr. Neville gave evidence that Greenwood, when he called at. 9 a. tn., said that, about two years ago someg one on the trams had been talking about witness’ character. Witness told him there was nothing for him to worry about. Greenwood, who did not seem greatly upset, said “Good- . bye," and left. A few minutes later 1 Greenwood returned and made furI ther remarks, the last being the 5 words quoted above. Witness telephoned the city engineer and a search } for Greenwood was made without, re--7 suit. L The body of an unknown middleaged man was found in Graften Gulley below the bridge at about 11 o’clock this morning. It is thought } that the body had been in the gully , since Sunday night. The man sufJ fered severe injuries, a broken neck, . shoulder, and arm, and death was ’ doubtless instantaneous. The body had struck a tree and broken a large * branch. 1 ? SUDDEN DEATH i BOWLING GREEN TRAGEDY [ Per Press Association. ] ' AUCKLAND, Nov. 24. ? Having established a lead of two 1 points and while walking across Stanley Bay Bowling Green last evening, 5 H. C. Hutt, aged 45, a well-known r club member, collapsed and died. He ■ had played seventeen heads and appeared to be in normal health. The doctor certified that death was due 1 to heart failure. The deceased, who ; resided at Devonport, leaves a widow ’ and two children. : BOY’S BODY FOUND 1 FALL FROM A ROOF [Per Pre's AssoclvOon. ) ) DUNEDIN, Nov. 24. i The police are advised that the dead ’ body of Lionel Gibb Ford, aged 5, was
found on Sunday evening lying near the wall of a lean-to attached to a barn at Momona. He had been in the habit of playing on the roof and it is surmised that he received a fatal injury in a fall.
