HIGHLAND BALL

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION AT FOBDELL

The Public Hall at Fordell presented a very gay appearance last Wednesday evening when dancers from a wide area gathered at the Highland ball in aid of the funds for the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band’s new uniforms. An energetic committee had worked hard, no efforts being spared to make the evening a success, both financially and socially. The hall was tastefully decorated, the main feature being the stage, witn its background of tartan and drapings of the Scottish flag and standard, and the band’s crest being prominently displayed in the centre.. A statuette of Robert Burns wa= placed on the stage along the front of which were bowls of beautiful lilies, poppies and rhododendrons. The music was provided by the Piano-Accordion Band, extras being played by members of the Highland Pipe Band. During the evening Miss Joan Peters danced the Sean Triubhas and responded to an encore with the Highland Fling. A sumptuous supper was piped in by Pipe-Major E. C. Morgan, the table decorations being carried out in beautiful tulips and light greenery.
