SILVERHOPE

There was a good attendance of members and friends at the monthly meeting of the Silverhope Women’s Institute held in the Rata Hall on October 14. After the business haa been dispensed with, Mrs T. Stewart, of Ohingaiti, gave a most interesting demonstration on the making or shoulder sprays and hospital boxes. This was keenly watched by the members. A flower show on a small scale was a feature of the afternoon, Mrs Stewart kindly judging the entries. The points prize for shoulder sprays was won by Mrs A. Bartlett with Miss Aidworth second. Miss Scott was awarded first and second for best buttonhole. Most points for flowers entered was won by Mrs Aidworth with Mrs Roper second. Musical items rendered by Mesdames Pryce and Rhodes were greatly enjoyed by all. The competition for the November meeting will be the best dressed 6d doll, and Mrs Ginnane, V. 0., of Mangaweka. will give a talk on her trip to the July conference held in Dunedin, and also demonstrate on “Eggshell Mosaic.” Roll call: Members to speak on any place of interest visltea by them, or to bring some treasured relic in their possession. A cordial invitation has been extended by the Ruapehu Federation Committee to any member who wishes to attend their meeting at Talhape on November 10, when the Hon. Mrs A. Watt will address the gathering. On October 26 a number of members propose visiting Fordell on the occasion of the half-yearly council meeting. At the conclusion of the meeting, hearty votes of thanks were passed to Mrs Stewart and also to Mrs Stevens for making such a splendid banner and to the donors of material supplied. Mesdames Leaning, Birtlett, and Miss Volkering were hostesses. them in carrying out thefr own ideas. Home lovers who want their homes to look smart this spring make a point of paying a visit to this furnishing store and viewing the display of made-up window hangings and furnishings.
