"KITCHEN” EVENING

R. HANNAH AND CO.’S STAFF A very happy gathering took place in McGruer’s Hall on Wednesday evening when the staff of R. Hannah and Co., Ltd., assembled to wish Miss M. Pedley every happiness in her approaching marriage. The function took the form of a “kitchen” evening, during which dancing, music, and competitions helped entertain nearly 100 guests. Items were contributed by Miss Pat Davis (song and dance), Miss B. Birch (tap dance), Mrs G. Perrett (songs), and Miss J. Hodges and Mr Hodges (piano and piano accordion, respectively). Dancing prizes were won as follow: Monte Carlo, Mr and Mrs Purvis 1, Miss M. Gurney and Mr A. Davis 2. Lucky gay gordons, Miss J. Pedley and Mr John Lewis 1. A dainty supper was provided by rhe staff, after which, Miss M. Pedley v\as presented with a huge basketful of useful gifts. In a happy speech, Mr A. E. Snelling (manager) spoke in the highest terms of the loyal and efficient manner in which Miss Pedley had carried out her duties to the company during 'the past eight years and felt sure that | the same was the opinion of the head I office and fellow members of the staff. IMr Snelling expressed the hope that Miss Pedley and Mr J. O’Kane would have plenty of good friends in their married life and wished them a very happy future. During the evening, Miss Pedley was presented with a novelty bouquet by Miss Eirch. The gathering was brought to a conclusion with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne,” after Mr Snelling had voiced the thanks of the staff for the assistance given by the artists and the committee. Special votes of thanks were accorded Mr Baker, who was a capable M.C., Mrs G. Perrett, and Mr and Miss Hodges. The hostesses of the evening were Mrs A. E. Snelling, Miss I. Johns, and Miss J. O’Neill, and the members of the committee responsible for the arrangements were Misses I. Wright and J. Birch, and Messrs S. Stark, D Walker and Snelling.
