MASTERTON RACING CLUB

MEETING ON SATURDAY LIST OF ACCEPTANCES. {Per Press Association J MASTERTON, Oct. 12. NURSERY HANDICAP. (Of £5O; four furlongs).

FOR WAIPUKURAU? NEXT GLOUCESTER CUP. The possibility of the club’s being allowed to stage the next Duke of Gloucester Cup was referred to by the president (Mr. P. F. Wall) at the annual meeting of the Waipukurau Jockey Club. This possibility was being discussed by all the racing clubs in the North Island who thought they might be eligible for it, but he thought that the Waipukurau Club had the best claim to the privilege, as it had consistently run amateur races for the last 35 years. He pointed out that by encouraging the amateur rider they were encouraging and training the sportsmen of the future, the men who would probably take control of the sport later on.
