Bull. H. T. Whale, K. R. Scoon. P. W. Briant, S. R. HamI mond. 11. W. Lampp. E. Openshaw. A. In. Marshall, and A. Way (secretary). Spring Meeting * In presenting the balance-sheet for the spring meeting, held on Septem- | ber 26, the chairman congratulated the stewards on its satisfactory financial result. Referring to complimentary tickets, the chairman stated that it was a bold step on their part to discontinue the issue of complimentary tickets, but it was evidently a step in the right direction, as proved by the results. The meeting, considering the inclement weather, with a cold wind blowing, which did not make the outing too pleasant, compared more than favourably with similar race meetings at which thousands of complimentary tickets haa | been given away. “I am quite sure.” continued tne chairman, ‘‘that people who enjoy a day’s racing do not object to paying for their sport, more especially when the gate charges are reasonably low.” He was quite pleased to learn that jone of the leading clubs in the Wanganui district had taken the matter in I hand and contemplated calling a (meeting of delegates from all clubs lin the Wanganui and Taranaki districts to consider the question of the issue of complimentary tickets ana gate charges generally. The Marton spring meeting showed a considerable increase in gate receipts and the totalisator turnover was increased by £36SI 10s. In view of the substantial increases the chairman moved “Thai this committee welcomes the suggestion of a conference of delegates from the Wanganui and Taranaki districts clubs to discuss the question of complimentary tickets and gate charges and the Marton Club will be pleasea to be represented at the conference.’’ This was carried unanimously. Improvements at Course The course committee recommended that the iron fence bordering the saddling paddock be removed to within a chain of the live hedge behind the main grandstand and then a direct line from the northern end of the main stand to the corner or the wash-down at the southern end of the horse stalls; also to erect selling boxes and pedestrian races at the entrance into the saddling paddock and a double gate for the purpose or enabling the public to make an easy exit at the conclusion of the meeting. The recommendation was favourably received by the committee and will be carried out. before the summer meeting. Trophy for Marton Cup In order to make the Marton Cup more attractive the stewards donated a £2O trophy for the winner of this race. New Members Seven more members were proposed, which brings the club’s membership up to 250.
