THE BULB SHOW A special effort has been made to collect attractive china for the art stall at the bulb show, which opens at the Civic Theatre to-day. Visitors will find plenty of opportunity here for buying useful Christmas presents. The members of St. Stephen’s Guild have been working hard all the winter for their stall. A splendid collection of pretty and useful articles will be found here by those who come to see the beautiful flowers, and help the church funds. A special entertainment will be provided to-night and to-mor-row evening. MAGISTRATE’S COURT ORDINARY SITTING HELD YESTERDAY The ordinary sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday, Mr R. M. Watson. S.M.. presiding. Sydney John Hodge was fined £1 and*costs 10s for driving an unlicensed motor-car on Broadway, while for not having a driver’s licence he was also fined £1 and costs 10s. For recklessly driving a motor-car on Pukepapa Road. Sydney D. Hammond was fined £3, with costs 12s, and his licence was suspended until December 31. E. J. Gill and Co. were fined £3 and costs 10s for a breach of the Transport (Goods) Order. 1936 Duncan McLean was fined 30s and costs 12s for grazing sheep on the roads. Judgment was given for plaintiff in the following undefended civil cases: G. Sargeant v. Peter Sambo. £4 17s 6d. costs £1 15s 6d. Rangitikei County Council v. Turn Hi roti and Jack Hiroti. £l4 7s 7d, costs £3 17s; L. A. Bailey v. J. J. Swanson. £2 Us lid, costs £1 5s 6d PERSONAL Mr and Mrs B. H. Morris and Mrs L. G. Morris sailed on Tuesday for Australia. Mr L. G. Morris is already on the other side of the Tasman with his team of horses, and "Bert” is to ride them in their engagements. Mrs M. Rasmussen, late of Balfour, Southland, is the guest of Mrs G. W. Brown, Signal Street Mrs (Dr. > P. Davy. New Plymouth, was a visitor to Marton on Tuesday, and yesterday as the guest of Mr and Mrs *P. H. Hall. Bowen Street. A well-known figure in the newspaper world. Mr John Morgan, agricultural editor of the Daily Herald. London, was in Marton for a brief time on Friday afternoon, accompanied by Mr Ormond Wilson. M.P., and visited Mr and Mrs P. H. Hall. GENERAL NEWS A very promising young Marton musician, Miss Edith Scott, who has sat for 13 examinations in music, nine for pianoforte, one for violin, and three in theory of music, has been fortunate in winning eight passes with honours and two with merit. Miss Scott is a pupil of Miss Mountfort’s for piano and theory of music, and of Mr Raynor White for the violin, and is only 15 years of age. At the local examinations of Trinity College of Music, London, in practical subjects held by Mr E. Egerton Lowe on Tuesday, Miss Mountfort has shown exceptional ability as a teacher, having with her students, won the medal. Two passed with honours and three with merit, out. of six candidiates presented. Miss Mountfort is to be congratulated. as there was only one pass with honours at the Feilding Centre, and three at. Palmerston North, which latter is a large centre.
