LEAGUE OF N ATIONS The Taihape branch of the League of Nations Union listened to a very interesting and instructive address on the work of the League on Tuesday evening by Rev. John Paterson, M.A., of Stratford, who motored to Taihape specially for the occasion. The meeting was not largely attended, but those who were in attendance were treated to one of the most inspiring addresses ever given in Taihape. METHODIST CHURCH Special services conducted by Rev. G. H. Goodman were held in the Methodist Church on Sunday in connection with the church's 41st. anniversary. In the morning there was a dedication of officers, while in the evening the younger members of the church were admitted to senior membership. The choir sang an anthem during the evening service. Miss Esther Watson was the soloist. Mr Greenfield acted as choirmaster, while Miss Darvill presided at the organ. Rev. Mr Goodman preached inspiring sermons at both services. A “tea” and social was held on Monday as a fitting finale to the 41st. anniversary celebrations. GENERAL NEWS The Wanganui Education Board has made arrangements for the conveyance of school children from Winiata to Taihape by bus. PERSONAL Mr S. Ewart commenced his duties as borough electrical engineer on Monday, in succession to Mr H. G. Knight. The friends of Mr Barney Beban will be interested to hear that he has secured a position on the luxury liner Awatea, which left this week on its maiden voyage across the Tasman. THE MAJESTIC. “NEVADA.” Zane Grey s stories have been film highlights for many years, and his latest effort, “Nevada,” is no excep- -*•«. It has be?-? dramatised by Paramount, and with Larry “Buster” Crabbe. Kathleen Burke, Monte Blue and Raymond Hatton, comes to the Majestic Theatre to-day. The colourful cattle country is the setting cf “Nevada.” There, Crabbe, as a cowpuncher, becomes involved with a cattle-rustling outfit, learns all about their plans and is ready to expose them when he himself is wrongly accused of being the mysterious leader of the rustlers. Woven into this adventure story is the romance that takes place between Crabbe and the daugher of the richest rancher in the countzy.
