RESIGNS FROM COUNCIL MR. J. D. GORRIE I MR. W. J. MOGRIDGE A CANDIDATE Mr. J. D. Gorrie, the twelfth anniversary of whose joining the Marton Borough Council fell yesterday, tendered his resignation to the council on Monday evening. Mr. Gorrie recently sold his interest in business in Marton and took over the managership of Messrs. Ellis Bros., Hunterville. Feeling that he was unable to give his civic duties in Marton the attention they required, although retaining property in the borough, Mr. Gorrie decided to resign from the council. Mr. W. J. Mogridge has been approached and has accepted an invitation to contest the vacancy on tne council. If any other candidates are forthcoming a ballot will be necessary under the Act. 3 he following resolution was passed and signed by the Mayor (Mr. F. Purnell) and councillors:— "That the Marton Borough Council in accepting with regret the resignation of Councillor J. D. Gorrie, desires to place on record its sincere appreciation of the valuable services rendered by him during his twelve years term of office. 1924-36. As convener of the Council’s Works Committee, especially. Councillor Gorrie has done much good work in the interests of the borough. He has attended council meetings very regularly and has taken his full share of all duties in connection therewith.
