SHIPPING STRIKE
VOLUNTEERS FOR WANGANELLA. HOPES FOR EARLY DEPARTURE. Received Dec. 29, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 29. Huddart Parkers have secured a full crew for the inter-Stale passenger vessel Westralia, which sails for Ho'bart on Tuesday. This is the first passenger ship to resume running since the strike began. The company now is making an effort to obtain a. erpw for the Wanganella, volunteers for which are gradually enrolling. The vessel may be despatched for New Zeaancl next week--end. Mr. Keenah, the strike leader,declares that the Aorangi s crew will give 48 hours’ notice. The crews of the Ngakuta and Gabriella have decided not to offer for re-engagement. COAL FROM ENGLAND GAS COMPANY ORDERS Received Dee. 29, 7.15 p.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 29. The Metropolitan Gas Company has placed orders in England for 17,000 tons of coal, due to the seamen.‘s strike. SUMMONSES ISSUED UNION REGISTRATION SYDNEY, Dec. 28. Summonses have been issued by the Industrial Commission against the Seamen’s Union calling upon it tu show cause why ite registration as an industrial union should not be cancelled., also to show cause why the preference clause in the colliers’ State award should not be rescinded. The summonses, which are returnable on January 7, arise out of the strike of the crews of the colliers.
