CALF REARING

SCHOOL COMPETITIONS. J UDGIxX G COM M ENCED. Every year at this time girls and boys attending several schools in the Wanganui Main Trunk area look forward to the day of judging calves entered in the rearing competitions promoted under the jurisdiction of the Education Board. Judges commenced their itinerary yesterday with Castlecliff, Kaitoke and Wangaehu Schools and will be in the Brunswick and Westmere districts to-day. Calf rearing is very popular in most of the country districts and judging day is quite aii event at each school. The Manutahi School set a very fine lead in recent seasons, by staging a miniature show, which was promoted entirely by the children themselves. The, officials were drawn from the children’s ranks. Yesterday the Wangaehu School emulated that example and was commended for so doing.
