WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

DISTRICT FEDERATION At the final committee meeting for the year matters of interest were discussed. Members present were: Mis J. Brine (president), Mrs Ginneise (Mangaweka), Mrs Dale (Fordell), Mrs Dcllow (Utiku), Mrs Farley (Makirikiri), Mrs Morrison (Maxwell), Mrs Millen (Westmere), Mrs O’Reilly (Westmere), Mrs Tomlinson (Upper Waitotara). Miss Stopps has accepted an invitation to speak to members of the federation in March. This is eagerly looked forward to, as Miss Stopps is an old friend of many in Wanganui. She organised the Aramoho Woluen’s Institute when last in this city. It was decided to agree to the scheme of raising enough money to send a delegate to the Conference of Associated Countrywomen of the World, to be held in Washington in June. Twopence a member is all that is asked to defray expenses. Miss Loe is to be invited to hold a school for members' in the Wanganui Federation on June 5. This follows her session in connection .with the British Drama League. Mrs Bellow and Miss Young were recommended to be voluntary or■ranisers in the Wanganui district. ’ A request has gone to the Dominion Executive that the Main Trunk Institutes be formed into a new federation in March. Mrs Morrison, oa behalf of those present, asked Mrs Ginnane to accept a beautiful “witch” bowl as an expression of appreciation of her two and a-half years’ service as secretary of the federation. Only matters of urgency will be attended to during the next two months. OK.OIA INSTITUTE The open evening of the Okoia Women’s Institute was held in the local hall on Saturday, November 9. There was a large attendance and it was very pleasing to see so many visitors. An excellent programme was arranged, which opened with the New Zealand National Anthem. Miss Roe gave a very interesting lecture on the “League of Nations” and its activities. Items were contributed bv Messrs Watkin and Saunders, and Miss Joan Wheatley, the accompaniments being played by Mrs Clinkard. The Makinkiri Drama CiiMle presented a very pleasing play. . Mrs McLeod, on behalf of the institute. passed a vote of thanks to Miss Roe for her interesting lecture. A delicious supper was then served, after which dancing concluded a delightful evening. Members are reminded of the meeting to be held next Thursday. The points competition is to be three roses, anv variety, and the ‘‘roll call,” recipe of a cold summer sweet. An exhibition of fancy Fork will be given by Mrs Lynch; also a demonstration of anv stitches desired.
