OTAKI PREPARATIONS TUESDAY MORNING’S WORK Otaki-engaged horses were among those galloped at Trantham ou Thursday morning, when the weather was ideal, with tue sun as warm as iu midsummer and a complete absence of wind. The tracks are already very fast, and though the plough is not yet properly prepared it is being used by several horses, particularly for slow work, writes * • Kangatira” in the Evening Post. Burgess, whose other rides will include alton Park and Chaste.

Otauru King (D. Wilson) ran half a mile alone in 50 2-sscc.

Dark Red (P. Burgess) did his best trial yet in beating Bluebell (Carruthers) by a couple of lengths over half a mile iu 50scc, but this son of Red Ribbc-n looks like requiring time. Plater (R. J. Mackie), kicked out all the way, easily accounting for Auckland Gas (J. K. Robertson; over five furlongs on the plough, “the last half-mile in 51sec.

Vinco ,F. W. Boxall) gave further indication of his promise for this season’s racing by urawing out to beat Going Gay (15. Wilson) by a length over six furlongs in Imin, 18sec., tne last half-mile iu 53 3-ssec. No rider has yet been fixed for Vinco, as his owner does not wish to put up overweight. Cottesmore (A. Henshaw) did his usual couple of rounds of pacing, going generously.

Ayresleigh (Henshaw) worked from the six furlongs and sharpened op down the straight. Conversion was one of tiie stable’s horses to be brought down to the track later in the morning.

Dampier (S. Wilson) finished on well to beat Arctic Star (D. W. Bush) by three parts ot“ a length over seven iuilongs in Imin. 31 3-ssee., the last halfmile in 52 3-ssec.

Arctic King (R. Hawes) worked a round the reverse way at half-pace. Acceptable (A. Ridgway) came down his last three furlongs in 38sec. Boomerang (R. Webster) was going easily through half a mile iu 54sec. Cuddle (F. Thompson) went a mile and a-half at about half-pace. The Vaals—Rosclovo colt (S. Wilson) beat Siegmund (J. McCauley) by a couple of lengths over half a mile ou the two-year-old grass track in 50 l-ssec.

Emmeline Lass (McCauley), going alone ,lcft three furlongs behind in 38sec., a shade slower than the other paid took for their last three. According to S. Wilson, who is to ride him, Gay Boy is definitely 7 to start in the Ling Memorial Handicap at Otaki. Wilson has an additional mount in Taumau in the hack distance race.
