Claire Trevor, an actress, joins forces with Edmund Lowe to back a rc-mauce and keep a captivating adventuress, Adrienne. Ames, from a desperate move involving the life of a young playboy, Tom Brown who wouldn’t play her game. Among the favourites in the supporting cast arc 'Tow Brown, Eugene I’allette, Herbert Mundin, and Ford Sterling. “The Nitwits*’ It used to be, “Set a thief to catch a. thief’’ Now it’s “Set ‘The Nitwits’ out with the thief.’’ Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey arc said to exemplify this variation of the age old adage in their newest comedy, “The Nitwits, ’’ showing to-morrow at the Plaza Theatre. The boys arj now cast as cigar counter propricLors, with sleuthing propensities. Woolsey invents a lie-detecting machine vdiich shocks a confession out of the most stalwart liar. Wheeler writes songs with murder themes as :vi avocation. An opportunity to put their fads to practical use comes when they .attempt to solve a blackmailing plot which is a. highlight of “The Nicwits,” An extortionist operating as “The Black Widow” is terrorising the city, and has slain two men. Wheeler’r. sweetheart, played by ravishing Betty Grable, is accused when sae ; s found with the murder weapon. “Music in my Heart,” “The Black Widow Will Get you if you Don’t Watch Out,’’ and “You Opened my Eyes” are the three melodies in “The Nitwits.” which should find favour with the whistling and singing puolic. Fred Keating, Miss Grable, Evelyn Brent and Erik Rhodes are in .he featured cast as possible suspect?. George Stevens directed the R.K.0.-Radio picture.
