VICE-ADMIRAL KILLED
CAR CRASHES INTO TREE. Received July 21, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, July 19. \ ice-Admiral E. Astley-Rushton, commander of H.AI.S. Alclbourne from 1916 to .1919, crashed into a tree while motoring alone and was killed instantly. Vice-Admiral Edward Astley-Rush-Lon has been Vice-Admiral Commanding the Reserve Fleet since 1934. He was 56 years of age. Early in the war he was in command of H.M.S. Southampton and Alclbourne in the Grand Fleet. He was mentioned in dispatches after the Battle of Jutland, being promoted captain and made C.M.G. From 191.9 to 1921 he was Deputy Director of Training and Staff Duties at the Admiralty, anti from 1922 to 1925 Director of the Royal Naval Staff College. Then for two years he commanded H.M.S. Alalaya. He became Naval A.D.C. to the King in 1827, and in the same year was promoted Rear-Admiral and decorated C.B. He was director of manning at the Admiralty, 1928-30, commanded the second cruiser squadron 1931-32, and was made a Vice-Admiral in 1932. ______
