AUSTRALIAN AS CHAIRMAN Received July 21, 5.5 p.m LONDON, July 19. Air. F. L. AlcDougall hais. been elected chairman of the Imperial Economic Committee. Air. F. L. AlcDougall was appointed vice-chairman of the Imperial Economic Committee in January, 193-1. He was appointed lant February f with Sir ' Mark Sheldon,, to represent ’ Australia at the initial sitting of the Imperial Economic Committee. Later he was made secretary of the London agency of the Australian Dried Fruit Export Control Board, and conducted a campaign in Great Britain on behalf of the Australian dried fruit industry. At the last Imperial Economic Conference he unoflicially rendered the Australian delegation much help. Air. AlcDougall was formerly a well-known orchardist on the Alurray River. He is the author of a book, ‘Sheltered Markets,’’ embodying a study of the value of Empire trade, with a preface by Sir Robert Horne. Air. AlcDougall in this book emphasises the importance of the Dominions to Great Britain, and refers to overseas markets for British manufacturers and markets for Empire produce in Britain as vital necessities for the success of Empire development.
