INFLUENZA IN SYDNEY
GOVERNOR A VICTIM CHURCH SERVICE ABANDONED. SYDNEY, July 8. The State Governor (Sir Bore Ruthven) and the Lord Mayor (Mr. Parker) are influenza victims. Extraordinary conditions created by influenza over the week-end included the abandonment of a church service at Taren Point in the Metrpolitan itrea, when none of the parishioners arrived, and the cancelling of the military ceremony of trooping the colour. DOMINION PRECAUTIONS. Inquiry was made in Wellington on Saturday as to what steps, if any, were being taken to safeguard the public of New Zealand against the possibility of an outbreak of influenza. In the absence of the Director-Gen-eral of Health (Dr. M. H. Watt) in the south, Dr. R. A. Shore, Inspecotr of the Hospitals Division of the department, stated that the only official information so far received from Sydney was to the effect that ordinary seasonal influenza was rife. At the same time Dr. Shore said that in view of the outbreak of influenza in Australia it was likely that the examination of passengers and others arriving in New Zealand from Australia would be more rigid. The department was always in touch with the health authorities in Australia in matters of health, and if there were reasons for taking further action, the department would do so.
