PLAZA THEATRE

“BROADWAY BILL ’ Once again the charming principal of “Manhattan Melodrama” and “The Thin Man,” Myrna Loy, is seen in a light role in the sparkling comedy its final screening at the Plaza Theatre to-night. Her talents as a comedienne have only recently been realised, but she is given lull scope in this delightfully refreshing story. Produced by Frank Capra, whose film, “It Happened Une Night,” was recognised as one of the best comedies of last season, “Broadway Bill” is a worthy successor in that it recaptures the deft and brilliant touch of its predecessor. Miss Loy is also fortunate in having the support of such a polished and experienced actor as Warner Baxter, who gives a performance comparable to those in “Daddy Long Legs” and “Paddy the Next Best Thing.” Other prominent players arc Walter Connelly and Helen Vinson. There is an excellent variety of shorter pictures. “The Silver Streak” The hair raising thrillers of the Pearl White and Helen Holmes era pale into insignificance when com pared to the modern thriller of the rails, “The >SilvCr Streak,” commencing to-morrow at the Plaza Theatre. It shows a train going at. an incredible speed, with the engineer at death grips in the cab. Around curves it goes, and through switches that upon just in time, missing freight trains by an eyelash, over drawbridges that close in the nick, of time. Che relief from the thrills, aside from a strong love interest between Bally Blune and Cbaries Starrett as the romantic leads, is the comedy provided by an able Irani of funny men, Edgar Kennedy, Arthur Lake and Guinn “Big Buy” Williams. The picture features the new streamline train of the Burlington Railroad which, together with Boulder Darn, comes to the screen for the first time in “The Silver Streak.” Also in the cast are Hardie Albright. William Farnuni Theodor von Eltz and Doris
