MAGISTRATE’S COURT
BY-LAW CASES HEARD The Magistrate’s Court sat at Wanganui yesterday morning, Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., presiding. Charged w’ith riding an unlighted bicycle in Somme Parade on the night of April 14, William Phillips was fined 10s and costs 10/-. Alexander John Cammock, charged with passing a stationary tram in Victoria Avenue, was fined £2 and costs 18s. Douglas Carkeek appeared on a charge of driving a motor-cycle in Victoria Avenue while not being the holder of a driver’s licence, and was fined £1 and costs. On a charge of driving a motor-cycle at night without a tail-light, Carkeek was fined 10s and *eosts. Arthur F. Chapman, on a charge of using an unregistered motor-cycle, was fined £2 and costs, while on a charge of not being the holder of a driver’s licence, was fined £1 and costs. For carrying more passengers than he was entitled to carry, Chapman was ordered to pay costs only. For using a motor-cycle without an efficient silencing device, Dick Gordon Jones was fined £1 and costs. Charged with operating a motor-lorry carrying a. greater load than the maximum, Hill Bros. were fined £2 and costs. A charge of driving a motor-car on Heads Road and failing to keep the vehicle as far as practicable on the left side of the road was made against Neil Peter Svenson. Defendant, who pleaded not guilty, was involved in a collision on the Carlton Avenue corner with Henry George Drew. Mr Brodie appeared for the defence. After hearing evidence, the magistrate was of the opinion that the evidence was too conflicting for a convinction and dis missed the case.
