Burke, Detective Packman stated that together with Constable Smith he interviewed accused in his premises in Victoria Avenue. Defendant admitted the offence ami produced betting material which disclosed that his operations had been only on a small scale. To Mr. Salmon: “The extent of his operations was very small, sir.” Witness further stated that there was a “double chart” on the table and -ome silver. Accused had resided in Wanganui for many years and bore a good character. It was his first appearance in Court. The Magistrate: “This is a more serious charge than the last. You*are liable to a fine not exceeding £lOO, but in view of your small operations you nre convicted and fined £lO with costs. ’ ’
