The parks committee reported to the Birkenhead Borough Council, Auckland, on Wednesday night, that application had been made to the Minister of Internal Affairs for £3OOO from the proceeds of three art unions to finance the construction of a swimming bath nn the frontage of Hincmoa Park, near the Birkenhead wharf. The bath would be 100 ft wide, of which a width of 50ft would have a length of 100 yards and 50ft. a length of 100 metres. It would be the largest swimming bath around Auckland. “The bath is to be as free as air,” said Mr. John Macdonald, chairman of the committee. The only time a charge would be made would be on occasions such as carnivals. This view was supported by the other members.
