•CHAINED.” FINALLY TO-NIGHT ‘‘Chained, ” showing finally to night at the Regent Theatre, is an unusual drama in the modern style. A shipping magnate (Otto Krugger), whose wife spends most of her time traveling or mingling with the society of <ew York, finds himself in love with lis secretary (Joan Crawford). The hree discuss the matter, and the wife •efuses to think of divorce. The secretarv falls in love with a young South American rancher (Clark Gable). She promises to marry him, and then returns to New York to explain to the shipping magnate. She discovers that the magnate has sacrificed his family for a divorce, and feels that the only •ourse to take is to marry him. On the stage is presented a charming or’hestral, singing, and dancing interpretation of “Shadow Waltz” and ‘ Mardi Gras.” A newsreel, a cartoon, and a very pretty fantasv in colour, complete an entertaining programme “The Notorious Sophie Lang” The story of •‘The Notorious Sophie Lang” and the stolen necklace (or necklaces) canot be described with full justice; it needs to be seen, as it will be screened to-morrow at the Regent Theatre, if you are to realise all the adventures of necklaces and the resourcs of crooks. There is a great hue and cry after Sophie and after the equally notorious male criminal Max Bernard (played by Paul Cavanagh). The two handsome crooks start out to cheat each other, but end bv falling in love. Alison Skipworth plays well as the elderly female accomplice of “Sophie.” Ferdinand Gottsehalk finds a good place as tne thief jeweller, and the subordinate jewellers, police, and other satellites are well acted.
