WANGANUI ASSOCIATION SATURDAY'S MATCHES FIVE DRAWN GAMES The heavy rains which preceded Saturday’s hockey matches had rendered the grounds at Gonville Park heavy and the ball was inclined to play tri'eks on the slightly bumpy surface. Much mis-hitting was in evidence and numerous chances were lost through forwards overrunning the ball. The games were for the most part keenly contested, as is evidenced by the closeness of the scoring in several instances and the several drawn games. Results arc: — Men's A Section Old Boys 1, Star 1. Old Boys v. Star A very ragged opening saw Star doing most of the attacking but failing to press home the advantage. Eventually a pass from the left swung across the goalmouth and Latham took the opportunity to goal. Despite strenuous efforts Star field the advantage until the interval. Resuming, play settled with Star very much on the defence. The spell was far advanced, however, before Old Boys obtained the, equaliser per Mclntyre? They should have gone into the lead a few moments later but offside nullified the effort. In the closing stages Star rallied and took up their share of attack but neither side was able to goal again. Old Boys 1, Star 1. Messrs R. L. Thompson and L. R. Spurdie were the umpires. Y.M.C.A. v. Hinemoa This proved to be a strenuously-con-tested game. Y.M.C.A., after recent .-uc'cesses were firm favourites when they scored the opening goal ai.d then before half-time added a second. Hinenioa had much the better of the second spell, however, and pressed the Y.M.C.A. defence severely. Goals by Sheriff and Pull allowed Hinemoa to draw level and the game ended: Hinemoa 2, Y.M.C.A. 2. Messrs G. Adams and I. Hodges were the umpires. Wesley v. Technical College These teams provided a bright and interesting game. Technical scored first and held the advantage at the change-over. Wesley equalised early in the second half and then, assumed the lead. In the closing stages Technical pressed hard and were rewarded with the equalising goal. Technical 2, Wesley 2.
