WANGANUI ASSOCIATION SATURDAY’S ONE GAME. ATHLETIC BEAT ARAMOHO. The second round in the Wanganui Football Association's Cup competition was to have been completed on Saturday, but owing to the unplayable state of No. 2 ground on Victoria Park the Eastbrooke—Thistle game was postponed. On No. 1 ground Athletic played Aramoho in weather which was most uncongenial, a cold, biting wind sweeping the field. In an evenly-contested game, with both sides doing their fair share of attacking, Athletic managed to win by the odd goal in three. The teams were:— Athletic.—Barron; Thomson, Wade; Robinson, Crumblcy, Dear; Bell, I Boyack; Beckett, Wilson, Thomas. Aramoho.—'Chesnut; Davidson, Duke: Nixon, Rusling, Cave; Fairclough, Kerwin; Mclnnes, Bates, Tasker. The referee was Mr. C. Phizacklea and the linesmen Messrs. Herd and Langslow. Aramoho won the toss and took advantage of the wind. From the kickoff Athletic made ground, but Duke relieved with a strong punt Jowa *he field. Mclnnis fixed on and shot hn.d but his direction was faulty. The greens came back and Fairclough, nicely rounding Dear, put across a ball which Mclnnes took and gave Bar ron no chance. One goal up in one minute, it looked we'.l for Aramoho with a strong wind behind them. They were playing with confidence and were round Barron. However, they failed to take advant age of the wind and could not get direction in their shooting. Athletic came away on the left but nothing came of it. Aramoho were again hovering in Barron’s vicinity, but Wade cleared. Crumblcy helped on the good work and [slipped out to Thomas, who crosvn*!. A I miskick by an Aramoho defender al- , lowed Wilson to come on to equalise. A minute later Chesnut had to clear I from Boyack. with two players in close attendance. Rusling, getting possession. put his forwards well away, but off-side play drew them up. Give and take play followed and the interval was called with the score: Athletic J, Aramoho 1. Aramoho made right for Barron at resumption, but Wade was right on the spirt and they were soon back on the defence. Athletic were doing most of the attacking. Wilson let Thomas away nicely, but the latter put past with no one near him. Crumbley Las a long drive but his elevation was too great. Athletic were keeping well in Aramoho territory but could not control the ball and did not look like scoring, so well were Chesnut, IDavidson i and Duke defending. However, a long i kick by Robinson was followed up by ■ the Athletic forwards and Crumbley. [ who had moved up, put through just , on the post. This goal seemed to liven Aramoho up again and, led by Bates, who was playing nice football, they came within an ace of scoring, "Mclnnis’ shot being charged down by Wade for a corner. Aramoho were soon showing to better advantage. There was no further scoring and the game ended: Athletic 2. Aramoho 1. On Saturday the junior games wore played on Victoria Park. On No. 1 ground Thistle met Rangers and after a hard, evenly contested game, finished with the score two goals to one in their favour. On No. 2 ground Marist, frosh from their defeat of Rangers, were rather lucky to beat Tech, by the only goal scored. Tech, played tho better foot-« ball but their forwards lacked penetra-1 tive force and to this they owe their j defeat.
