ROGILLA’S STERLING WIN A.J.C. MEETING CONCLUDES CHATHAM’S CROPPER PLATE. Received April 8, 7.5 p.m. SYDNEY, April 8. Tho Australian Jockey Chib was favoured with ideal weather for the concluding day of the autumn meeting at Randwick ou Saturday. The track was in excellent order. The attendance was 32,000. The Doncaster winner, Chatham, continued his winning way with an easy victory in the C. W. Cropper Plate. Golden Wings was favoured at the start. Due to his bad manners at the machine Golden Wings was hurdled off at the outside, lie was moving to take up his position when the barrier lifted. Making the most of the advantage Golden Wings quickly established a substantial lead and led round the turn but was unable to pace it in the final stages with the mighty Chatham. The King’s Cup field, which comprised Australia’s best weight-for-age horses, including two Melbourne Cup winners, provided the most thrilling finish seen at Randwick for a long time. Peter Pan, Kuvera and Rogilla raced abreast over the final half-fur-long, Rogilla finally getting his nose in front a stride from the post. The crowd showed their appreciation with a prolonged outburst of cheering. Results were as follow: — ROUS HANDICAP (Of £450; seven furlongs.) Passing the Leger, Chatham drew away and won with ease by two and a-half lengths. Time, 1.11?. FERNHILL HANDICAP (Of £450 ; one mile.) Sylvandale, 8.11, Pike 1 Theo, 9.0, McCarter 2 Artful Clare, 7.10, Shelton 3 Eighteen started. Rogcrio, Croupier and Queen Helen were the early leaders. Approaching the turn Croupier was a length clear of Sylvandale, Queen Helen and Theo. When they straightened up for home Sylvandale assumed control and finished best to win by one and a-half lengths. When the field had settled down Oro led by a length, followed by Mr. Kerry, Silver Scorn and Peter Pan, with Rogilla in the rear of the field. Oro and Mr. Kerry, together, were first into the straight, closely pressed by Peter Pan, Silver Scorn and Kuvera, with Rogilla making a fast move. Passing the Leger, Peter Pan and Kuvera had a slight advantage over Rogilla. Then ensued a thrilling struggle, the three horses racing abreast until Rogilla poked his nose in front in the final stride and won by a head. Time, 2.32. DANGAR HANDICAP (Of £450 ; 1% miles.) Gippsland (The Verderer— Golden Lily), 8.1, Knox 1 Tingalba, 9.2, Pike 2 Balgay, 6.10, Wailes 3 Nino started. Rogerson was the early pacemaker. Balgay and Lightning March were first to turn for home from Tingalba, Confab and Gippsland. Passing tho Leger Tingalba took charge but was unablo to withstand a determined challenge from Gippsland, who got up in lime for victory by a long head. Time, 2.30?. FINAL HANDICAP (Of £650 ; I’i miles.) Rivalli. (Rivoli —No. 4), 8.6, Maxwell 1 Milantheon, 8.12, James 2 Australia Fair, 8.4, Cook 3 Fifteen started. Rivalli ran to the front passing the mile and led for the remainder of the journey. Milantheon came fast in the straight but Rivali Lung on to gain a well-earned victory I v a length. Time, 2.5.
