HAWKE’S BAY JOCKEY CLUB
SECOND AUTUMN MEETING. PROSPECTS EOR TO-DAY. (By “Kestrel.”) Unlike the majority of racing clubs in the North Island, the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club is adhering to the win-and-place system for the totalisator, and this will again be in operation this afternoon, when the second autumn meeting will be held. 'The fields to-day are of handy dimensions and as the weather has been fine the track promises to be in excellent order. Followers of the form seen at Hastings last Saturday and also the Waipukurau meeting on Monday will no doubt bo able to secure more than the usual amount of interest in the racing. The principal item to-day is the President’s Handicap, run over ten furlongs, for which reason backers will have Waipukurau Cup and Hawke’s Bay Cup form to guide them. Gainsfld heads the list with 8.9, and he bids fair to repeat his Waipukurau Cup success of last Monday. Emotion may be expected to do better than he did at Feilding, but Aeseulus Heads better, especially as he won the Hawke’s Bay Cup last Saturday. Blue Boy comes in on better terms than at Hastings a week ago and may make amends for his failure. Stitch and Sylvan Dell are likely improvers, but Blue Boy, Gainsfld and Aeseulus appear the likely trio. Some useful sprinters are engaged in the Akawa Handicap, with recent winners in Royal Hunting and Cullus included. Slippery, Souchong, Speed and Sylvan Dell should also have friends. "The following may be well supported in their respective engagements today;— Karamu Hurdles. —Manuiri, Kimbo. Tomoana Electric Handicap.—Marae Quex, De Trop, Pikiao. Juvenile Handicap. —Queen’s Pride, Arauline. President's Handicap. —Blue Boy, Gainsfld, Aeseulus. Akitio Hack Handicap.—Conference, Tres Sec, High Grader. Twyford Handicap.—Grumpy, Hybiscus.
