AUTUMN MEETING OPENS FOUR WINS POE L J. ELLIS [ Pei* Press Association. J GREYMOUTH, April 6. The Greymouth Jockey Club autumn meeting was opened to-day in line weather with a good attendance. The track was fast. The totalisator handled £4053, compared with £4542 last year. Results: — Novi'ee Stakes.—s Battle Queen (L. J. Ellis) 1, 3 Arctic Star (Messervy) 2, 2 Copenna (A. E. Eastwood) 3. Also: 6 Sky Rest, 1 Gay Spear, 4 Scatchmere Scar. Head; length and a-half. Time, 1.9 2-5. Mawhera Trot.—9 Tommy Boy 1,2 Tricliff 2, 3 Erin’s Beauty 3. Neck; length. Time, 2.21. Stewards’ Handicap. 1 Quietly (Ellis) 1, 4 Lady Reno (Eastwood) 2, 6 Wise Choice (Murfitt) 3. Also: 2 Verden, 7 Full Crop, 5 Sir Pombal, 3 Maroha, 8 Marmoration. Five lengths; one and a-half lengths. Time, 1.20 1-5. Hannan Memorial. —1 Giggleswick (L. J. Ellis) 1, 4 Coomassie (A. Merservy) 2, 3 Sky Rover (Eastwood) 3. Also: 2 Ramo, 5 Little Doubt, 6 Noteworth}'. Half a length; two lengths. Time, 2.7 4-5. Noteworthy led to the home bend where the field -closed. In an exciting finish Giggleswick came from the middle of the field to take charge and stall off a challenge by Coomassie in the run to the post. Sky Rover came with a strong run from the rear of the field, finishing third. Metropolitan Hack.—l Quietly, 8.9 (Ellis) 1, 3 Gold Arrow (Kirwan) 2, 5 Zetcs (Messervy) 3.
