FAITH AND HOPE.
Upon this round earth, with its changing seasons and its eternal beauty, the spell of Christmastide again falls. Christmas is not a date: it is a spirit and an attitude. Therefore, what message could be given but that of Faith and Hope. These long years of world-wide sorrow and affliction have not been all less, but rather seasons of discipline and trial bringing not debasement but refining. And now a newer dawn, with its purple and crimson and scarlet, breaks over the eastern sky, shedding its cheering comfort of peace and goodwill to all. To us this Yuletide brings the challenge of a hastened and sanctified citizenship, and because so many to-day are wistfully turning their faces to Nobler Things, I believe that the world will surely work out its own salvation, guided by the Unseen Hand of God. May you all, in this radiant City of ours, with its tall trees and its river running by; with its great-hearted men and women, and its laughing lads and lassies, feel the expulsive happiness of the coming week-end, and the ineffable mystery and wonder of Him who came that we might have Life and have it to overflowing. —Rev. R. Dudley, M.A.. (Trinity Methodist).
