| THE WANGANUI SALE FAT SHEEP IN DEMAND Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., report on their Wanganui sale as under:— The sheep entry comprised a full yarding of fats, which met with spirited "competition at prices in excess of late rates, export buyers n operating freely. A fairly largo yardk ing of cattle came forward. Fat s cattle were dull of sale, but several . nice pons of bullocks, on account of lt Mr E. A. Whiteman, of Kakatahi, sold . at full market rates. A large yarding 1 of pigs sold at slightly lower prices. We quote: — e Sheep. —Prime ewes, Ils 6d to 12s . 7d; lighter do., Ils 2d; fat xvethers, 21s to 21s 6d; light do.. 18s 9d to 18s lOd; good fat lambs, 21s Id; others, 20s Id to 20s sd; lighter do., 17s. Cattle.—Fat bullocks, £6; fat •cows. £3 to £4 10s; ex dairy sortg, £2 to £2 12s 6d; rough aged bullocks, £4 2s; 4vear forwa bullocks, £4 10s to £4 i.3s; 3-vear P.A. bullocks, £4; 3-year L steers (mixed), £3 Ils; store cows (plain), £1 5s to £1 10s. Pigs.—Baconers, £2 2s 6d to £2 9s 6d: best porkers, 27s to 28s; medium porkers, 255: lighter do., 21s; good stores, 17s 6d; ?jood xveaners. 14s to 17s 6d; others, 10s 6d to Ils 6d; small and poor weaners, 4s to 6s 6d. Vealers.—Best. £2 to £2 3s; others, 35s to 375; small, 15s to £1 6s 6d. Our next, sale at Wanganui will be held on Wednesday, January 10. The Christmas double market was held at Addington to-day, when there was an excellent fat lamb sale. Store Sheep.—The entry was mainly , station wethers from Nelson and Marlborough. There was a good clearance at prices equal to last week’s. The rains stimulated interest. Values: For- ' ward crossbred wethers, I4s 9d to 16s 7d; ordinary halfbred, 12s to 14s; small and backward halfbred, 9s to Ils 6d (good 2-tooth); Romney ewes to 245; medium 4 and 6-tooth, to 21s 6d; ordinary four and six-tooth halfbred, to 18s 9d; sound-mouth ewes, 12s 4d to 15s; aged and failing mouth, 6s to 10s 6d; ewes and lambs (all counted), to I2s; forward store lambs, 15s to 16s 2d. Fat Lambs. —An entry of 2200 ol fair quality. Butchers dominated the 1 sale, buying steadily at 7$d —an advance of Is 6d a head and iu cases ' more. Values: Extra prime heavy to 26s lOd, prime heavy, 21s to 245; mo- 1 dium. 18s to 20s 6d; light, 15s to 17s 6d. ' Fat Sheep.—An entry of 4300, mostly owes in medium condition. The small entry for a double market stimulated ’ competition and values for ewes rose J . Is 6d a head and more in cases, Weth- 3 ers were unchanged. Values: Extra 1 prime heavy wethers, to 28s lOd; prime heavy, 23s to 265; prime medium 1 weight, 21s to 22s 9d; ordinary, 18s 1 to 20s; light, 15s to 17s 6d; extra ■ prime heavy ewes, to 23s 4d; prime J heavy, 20s»6d to 22s 6d; prune medium 1 weight, l(/s 6d to 20s; ordinary, 13s to 16s; light, 10s to 12s 6d. 4 Fat Cattle.—An entry of 360, most * of poor quality. For very best steers, heifers and cows, there was a rise of £1 to 30s a head. The rest were un- ; altered. Best beef made 21s to 23s per 4 100 lb., and in cases to 26j. Good, 16s v 6d to 19s 6d; heavy -weight, 17s to 19a; ® prime medium weight, 23s to 255; ordi- 31 nary, 15s to 17s; rough down to 10s. Fat Pigs.—A small yarding of bacon, but a large one of pork, which met with a good demand, both for the local and export trade. Values: Choppers. 30s to 48s 6d; baconers, 44s 6d to 51s 6d; heavy, 53s 6d to 56s 6d; average, 4d to 4|d. Porkers, 27s 6d to 32s 6d; heavy, 34s 6d to 39s 6d; extra to 425; average, 4s to 5Jd.
