There was a very satisfactory attendance at the show ground on Saturday afternoon, about 500 being present to witness the contest between Ruapehu reps., and a team from Taihape. The weather was perfect from a spectator’s point of view but the bright sun was trying to the players. Taihape won the toss and Ruapehu had to start with the sun in their eyes. Shortly after play started W. Thompson, one of the Taihape forwards was hurt, but was able to carry on. Tocker, of the Ruapehu team, was also hurt and retired and Parkes took his place. Chase was the first to score. He broke away from a scrum and kicked over the opposing fullback’s head, followed up, and got over the line. With a good kick the ball was sent over the bar to make Taihape 5 to their opponent’s nil. Ruapehu tried hard to even matters, and before long Gordon broke away and Friedlander passed to Arnadio, who scored at the corner and could not manage to add the major points. The Ruapehu men tried hard to score but the defence was too good for them and the play was up and down the field, till the veteran Beiliss dummied his way over the line and Thompson put the ball over from an easy angle, making the score Taihape 10, Ruapehu ,*J. Ruapehu kept up the attack and Gordon crossed the line near the posts and Clemett again put the. ball over the bar making the score Taihape 15, Ruapehu 13. Taihape took the play down the
