Engagement. The engagement is announced of Jack Pelham, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Wilkie, of Marton to Doreen (Dawn), youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Fox, of Frankton Junction. Legion of Frontiersmen. The Legion of Frontiersmen are holding a dance in tho Westmere Hall tonight, Thursday, May 11, when an enjoyable evening is assured for those who attend. Prizes are offered for the best all-round dancers. Bus leaves Hodson’s at 8 p.m. Wanganui Savage Club. Owing to repeated requests, the Savage Club has decided to open its cabarets to the public. All are cordially invited. The next cabaret will be held in the Savage Club Hall on Saturday, May 13. Alcoves for parties of 10 or more, and tables for twos and fours may be reserved with the secretary, Mr. Dobbs, c/o Dobbs Bros., Victoria Avenue, or with the caretaker, ’phone 5009. Bridge Evening. The club rooms on Tuesday night were decorated with mauve chrysanthemums and autumn berries when the bridge circle of the Lady Jellicoe Club held their weekly game. The highest score was handed in by Mrs. Blennerhassett, and Mrs. G. Wall won the lucky number. W.D.F.U. The Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union arranged an afternoon on Friday to meet Miss McMillan, who was visiting Waverley for the purpose of forming home science classes. After the address it was decided to form a committee, Mrs. Boyer being chosen as president and Mrs. Jas. Newland secretary. The committee is as follows:—Mesdames Mountford, D. Walker, W. Morrison, and Lovegrove. A number of names were passed in and the groups arranged for dressmaking, homemaking, beautifying, and food and health groups.
